Today's Shrinerfest press conference. The Unlimited Hydroplanes last raced at Evansville in August 2009.
It was announced officially at the Shrinersfest press conference Thursday morning the big boats would return on June 14.
After a 4 year absence on the banks of the Ohio River, a two boat exhibition race will be staged- piston power versus turbine.
The 3 Master Tire and the 11 Peters & May will be the two boats dueling it out for the one day event.
The exhibition is part of the week long annual Shrinersfest activities on the Evansville riverfront.
Two groups are responible for the return.
Nauticpromo and Evansville Hydroplanes teamed up make the exhibition a reality.
Hope by both groups is to use the event as a test and guage the interest of race fans for the return of Evansville back on the H1 Unlimited schedule for 2015.
After months of discussions, and logistics to be settled, the event came together.
Ed Cooper brings his Go3 Racing Team back to the water for the first time since July 2010.
"It's exciting to be able to run our boat again," said Cooper. "We may have to knock some rust off, but we're more than ready to get back on the water."
Jimmy King returns to his familiar seat in the 3 Master Tire.
Scott and Shannon Raney travel across country from Seattle with their chartreuse colored 11 Peters & May Unlimited.
The Raney's and driver Tom Thompson come into the 2014 season well prepared and ready to make some noise on the H1 tour.
No format for the exhibition was announced, but the fans in Evansville should get a thrill of seeing the Unlimiteds back on the river, where they raced for 30 years prior to dissolving the race.
Buttons for the event are $5. We'll let you know where you can purchase them. Every button sold is a step to helping the Shrinersfest succeed and bringing the Unlimiteds back to Evansville.
